Some steps for freeing up disk space if your disk is full:

  1. Empty your Trash can
  2. Delete things in your Downloads folder
    1. After deleting, you must Empty the Trash
  3. View your largest files
    1. Under the Apple icon chose About This Mac/Storage/Manage
    2. Give it time to calculate file/folder sizes
    3. Identify your largest folders and files.
      1. Delete any that are no longer useful. After deleting, you must Empty the Trash
      2. Move any off of your computer that you don't need to have on there.
  4. Three-step Google Drive solution
    1. Step 1 - UPLOAD
      1. Click the nine dots icon in Gmail then click "Drive"
      2. Click the "New" button
      3. Click "File upload" and "Folder upload" to upload your items to Google Drive
    2.  Step 2 - VERIFY
      1. Go to Google Drive and find your uploads. They are in your "My Drive" section
      2. Open several different uploaded files, from several different folders, until you are convinced that the upload of allof your items was successful.
        1. You can't open everything, so the best you can do is to test random samples of your uploads then assume the rest of your items would test the same
    3. Step 3 - DELETE
      1. If you verified that your items uploaded successfully, and ONLY if you have VERIFIED this, you can then delete the originals from your computer. YOU MUST EMPTY THE TRASH TO REGAIN THE FREE SPACE
  5. Move personal files like pictures, movies, and music off of your computer
    1. You can use your school computer for personal things as long as there is room. But they are the first to go if you need more space.
  6. If you ever connect your iPhone to your laptop with a cable then it probably backed up a copy your phone's items and those backups can be large!To delete them:
    1. Copy the following text:  ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync
    2. Open a Finder window
    3. Under the "Go" menu at the top chose "Go to Folder..."
    4. Paste in the copied text and click the "Go" button
    5. Delete the "Backups" folder
