How To Use Code42 Backup Alerts, Status Reports, etc.
Backup Alerts include…
Last Connect - This is the last time the computer had a connection to the authority/instruction server. That server is different from the backup server. Even if there is no connection to the authority server the backup server still works. So I need to watch both of them because we need good connections to both. For example, new admin changes must be communicated to the authority server, so a connection to it is still critical
Last Backup - This is the last time the machine’s backup reached 100%
How do I use these two to decide if a device needs help?
Tameer said people with 10,000 seat organizations often only get this once a week and they barely look at it. He said the most important thing to look at is the computers marked in red in the Status Reports.
Status Reports include…
Last Completed - This is the last time the machine’s backup reached 100%. It’s the same as “Last Backup” in the Backup Alerts.
Last Activity - This is the last time the computer had a connection to (...and backed up something to?...) the backup server.
How is this different from Last Connect?
Last Connect is the last connection to the authority server. Last Activity is the last connection to the backup server.
Examples where they are different by >=1 day (several others differ by minutes instead of days)

How do I use these two to decide if a device needs help?
Last Activity is more important. However, everyone should eventually reach 100% completed, or at least be near it (new items added every day might keep it from being fully 100% backed up, but it should still be close to it.)

How would I use this report to decide if a device needs help?
I DID NOT ASK THIS QUESTION
If we changed backup targets from entire user folder to just Desktop and Documents or some other subset of folders, how will that affect things?
Tameer suggested excluding the items within the user folder that we don’t want backed up.
Is there an admin manual I can consult?
See their website. It’s very searchable for specific questions, Tameer said. They also have a Code42 University for new admins.
MOST IMPORTANT TAKEHOME AFTER TODAY: Tameer said because we are an enterprise customer we don’t need to spend ANY time troubleshooting why someone might be having problems. We can just send their logs to support and support does all the diagnosis.
