  1. Connect Apple TV to:

    1. Power

    2. A monitor

    2. Open “AppleTV Settings - Conf Display”

    3. Click Edit

    5. Click “Add”

    6. Make sure “Show” drop-down at bottom is set to “All”

  2. Search for any part of the Apple TV’s name

  3. Click on its name in the search results

THIRD: RESET AND UPDATE APPLE TV

  1. Using an Apple TV remote:

    1. Go to Settings/System/Reset

    2. Choose “Reset and Update”

    3. Confirm choice on next screen

      1. Apple TV deletes it’s OS, installs the latest updated OS

    4. Leave Apple TV connected to its network wire for awhile (10 min? 2 min? ??) after it updates and it often steps itself through all the dialog screens that come up and it leaves you back at your “desktop” at the end. IF IT DOES NOT DO THIS AUTOMATICALLY, OR IF YOU WANT TO SPEED UP THE PROCESS, THEN GO TO THE NEXT STEP TO DO IT MANUALLY.

    5. Once rebooted, pair your remote (press enter on silver remote)

      1. The system then choses English (or maybe you do) then the system chooses U.S., choses to yes, manage the device, etc.

        1. Apple TV checks in with Apple DEP, gets flagged as belonging to us, and Jamf then pushes various Configuration Profiles to it. The device is currently named “Apple TV”

  1. Rename Apple TV manually In Jamf:

    1. Under Devices click Smart Device Groups

    2. Click AppleTVs

    3. Click View

    4. Should show results sorted by name. Make it so, if not

    5. Top hits will be named just “Apple TV”

    6. Identify which one is your Apple TV of interest using its serial number. It’s usually the last of the ones named “Apple TV”

    7. Click on the correct Apple TV’s name

    8. Click Edit

    9. Click Enforce Mobile Device Name

    10. Type in the correct name for the Apple TV

      1. Naming convention is:

Postoak campus Apple TV’s = XX YY Room Z

Village campus Apple TV’s = XX Room Z

XX =        campus code (PO = Postoak, VC = Village Campus)

YY =        building code (MN = main, SC = student center, IS = intermediate school)

Room Z =    room number

  1. Click Save

  2. It puts you back on the “General” page and the new name is not showing yet.. Refresh your browser window here and it shows up.

  3. Click Done

    1. New name should show up now on the display it’s connected to

    2. The Apple is also now locked in Conference Room Display mode, so it won’t respond to remote commands.

  1. Connect Apple TV to the wireless network

    1. Unplug the ethernet cable

      1. After a minute the WiFi configuration profile in the Apple TV will make it connect to SAES. It displays this connection on the Conference Mode screen

  2. Disconnect Apple TV from everything and deploy to its classroom

  3. Viola! (which is French for “Everything about your Apple TV is now perfect”)
